FREDDY'S WAS THE HOTTEST CABARET DURING THE EARLY 1980'S. Anyone who's anyone either performed there or was a patron. I was hired as a singing waiter. The star-studded patrons included Ethel Merman, Margaret Hamilton and Claudette Colbert to name a few. I had the honor to be chosen by Freddy to be his last headliner.
Marcia Lewis"s opening night of Roza at Sardi's restaurant New York City. with Diaan Ainslee and me. I met Marcia in 1980.at Freddy's.We became close friends. I was her opening act at many of her performances.
Charles Pierce was one of the 20th century's foremost female impersonators, particularly noted for his impersonation of Bette Davis. As part of his act I would bring him a Martini. He would make some funny comment about me, like "here's the Pirate"
Pudgy was the first lady of insult. She would go into the audience and pick on everyone including me. Her humor was always in good taste. Our friendship continued beyond Freddy's
Maureen was a regular at Freddy"s. The most beautiful, versatile voice I've ever heard. On occasion, myself and two other waiters sang back-up for Maureen.
Whitney joins her mom Cissy on Freddy's Supper Club in 1983. A night my friend Paul and I will never forget!
Eartha was a regular at Freddy"s. With her feline voice she dazzled the audience. As part of her act, I would bring her a bottle of champagne and make me drink the whole bottle. We often had dinner together.
